Aliikai
Aliikai returns to the Flores Sea as a seasoned traveller reborn. After nearly fourteen years of expedition voyages across the Lesser Sunda islands, this 41-metre wooden vessel was entirely refitted in Bali through 2019 and 2020. What emerged is a three-deck charter built around space, privacy, and the kind of unhurried comfort that long crossings demand.
The Vessel and Its Story
Aliikai is a 41-metre wooden boat that spent almost fourteen years as an expedition platform for small groups and families exploring the Lesser Sunda islands. In November 2019 she began a full transformation in Bali, reshaped through 2020 into the charter you can book today. The layout prioritises generous volumes over showy extras, with seven cabins distributed across three decks and communal areas sized for groups that actually intend to spend time together. She now sails under the Boat Komodo Trip banner as a VVIP option for Komodo National Park voyages.
The design brief was straightforward: emphasise space, privacy, and comfort. That discipline is visible everywhere. The intimate lounge and dining room reads as cosy rather than cramped. The sky deck stretches across the upper level, and the alfresco area on the main deck is genuinely vast. Guests tend to scatter naturally, so there is always a quiet corner to claim for reading, napping, or watching Komodo's dry hills roll past.
Living Spaces and Facilities
The indoor lounge and dining area sits at the heart of the main deck. It is air-conditioned, lit by wrap-around windows, and designed as a multi-purpose shelter from the mid-day sun. Fold-away glass doors slide open onto the covered outdoor lounge and dining space, where daybeds and sofas face the water. On still evenings, dinner under the stars is the default setting rather than a marketed occasion.
Upstairs, the yoga studio doubles as a breeze-cooled lounge during the day. After sundown, the crew reconfigures the same space into an open-air cinema with a selection of films and, yes, popcorn. These small rituals give the boat its character. None of them require you to dress up, book a table, or follow a schedule.
Cabin Arrangement for 14 Guests
Aliikai accommodates up to 14 guests across 7 cabins spread over the three decks. The mix is unusually varied for a boat of this size, so groups with mixed needs can usually find an arrangement that works. The cabin categories are:
- Owner Cabin 1 and Owner Cabin 2, the two largest suites, positioned for privacy and the best outlook - Ocean View Window Cabin, bright rooms with full windows onto the sea - Ocean View Porthole Cabin, cabins on the lower deck with classic porthole views - Family Cabin, a configuration suited to parents travelling with children or friends sharing space
The seven cabins mean families and multi-generation groups can book the whole boat without awkward room-swapping. For smaller parties, Aliikai also joins shared Komodo itineraries where cabins are booked individually rather than as a full charter.
Itineraries and Daily Rhythm
The standard 3D2N Open/Share Trip follows a well-tested Komodo loop. Day one begins with a 09:00 hotel or airport pickup in Labuan Bajo, followed by Kelor Island for trekking and photos, Manjarite for snorkelling, and Kalong Island at dusk for the sunset bat migration. Day two opens with pre-dawn trekking on Padar Island, then Pink Beach, Komodo Island for dragon-spotting, Manta Point, and Taka Makassar. The final morning covers sunrise and snorkelling at Sebayur Island before returning to Labuan Bajo by mid-morning.
Destinations can shift based on weather and sea conditions, which is how every responsible operator in the park runs things. Guests are asked to follow crew guidance for safety, especially on landings and during dragon treks. Longer 4D3N, 7D6N, 9D8N, and 11D10N private charters are available for groups who want a deeper voyage, and Aliikai can also be chartered for Komodo-to-Sumbawa routes when schedules allow.
What Is Included and Practical Notes
The package covers accommodation on board, all meals, mineral water, coffee and tea throughout the trip, an English-speaking guide, snorkelling gear, and life vests. Pick-up and drop-off are included from hotels or the airport within the Labuan Bajo mainland area near the harbour, while outer-island accommodation and the Manjaga area are not covered. Crew tips, flights, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, personal snacks, and the Komodo National Park entry fees sit outside the package; park fees vary with the itinerary and activities.
Bookings require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the date, with the balance due 30 days before departure. Trips booked inside 30 days require full payment upfront. Availability should be confirmed before completing the reservation form, and payment confirmation is handled via WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-875.
