Blue Manta: A 45-Metre Dive Liveaboard Purpose-Built for Raja Ampat

Blue Manta is one of the largest purpose-built dive boats operating in the region, a 45-metre VVIP liveaboard designed specifically for Raja Ampat waters. The vessel carries 22 guests across 14 en-suite cabins measuring 20 square metres each, with a dedicated camera room, dive deck, outdoor dining, and a sundeck for between-dive recovery. Rates for a 7D8N itinerary start from USD 3,250 per cabin, excluding marine park fees and fuel surcharges.

Boat Specifications and Onboard Facilities

At 45 metres, Blue Manta falls into the upper tier of Indonesian dive liveaboards by size, and her design was driven from day one by dive logistics rather than retrofitted from a charter phinisi. The 14 en-suite cabins sit across upper, main, and lower decks at 20 square metres each, giving divers genuine space to store wet gear, camera rigs, and personal belongings without tripping over roommates. The dedicated camera room is the signature feature for underwater photographers; charging stations, rinse tanks, and workspace for housings and strobes make post-dive workflow manageable in a way few boats match. The dive deck, saloon lounge, outdoor dining area, and sundeck round out the public spaces. Onboard amenities include freshly baked bread at breakfast, five meals per day, snacks and drinks throughout, special dietary catering on request, and optional massage on the sundeck.

Cabin Tiers Across Three Decks

Blue Manta's cabins divide across three deck levels, each with its own mix of double and twin configurations plus en-suite bathrooms. Upper Deck Cabins sit highest with the best natural light and the most direct access to the sundeck and saloon, making them the premium tier. Main Deck Cabins occupy the middle level with proximity to the dining area and dive deck, which experienced divers often prefer because it minimises stair climbs with a full wetsuit. Lower Deck Cabins sit at the waterline; they are the most stable in swell and typically the most affordable on the cabin price ladder. All 14 cabins are 20 square metres with private bathrooms, and the tier choice mainly affects view, proximity, and per-cabin pricing rather than cabin size itself. For mixed-experience groups, combining upper and lower deck bookings often works better than pushing everyone into a single tier.

What's Included and What's Extra

The charter inclusion list covers local airport and hotel transfers in Sorong, all onboard meals and accommodation, fruits, snacks, and soft drinks, daily cabin service, a dive guide, and standard air tanks, belts, and weights for all dives. The fare does not include flights or land accommodation, dive or travel insurance, equipment rental, or onboard trip extras. Two mandatory surcharges apply: marine park and harbour fees at USD 200-250 per guest depending on routing, and a fuel surcharge at USD 150-200 tied to current diesel prices. These are collected in cash or card on embarkation. Premium equipment rental, nitrox, and dive computer hire are available but not bundled. The booking rhythm requires a 50% deposit at confirmation, with the balance due 14 days before the trip; short-notice charters within 14 days require full payment at booking.

Who Blue Manta Suits Best

Blue Manta is engineered for serious divers and underwater photographers running multi-day Raja Ampat itineraries. The camera room, dive deck configuration, and 22-guest capacity mean the dive routine runs smoothly, with enough space that photographers and recreational divers don't bump heads in the rinse tanks. Small dive clubs booking full boats or photo tour operators chartering for workshops are the typical clientele. For non-diving partners, the sundeck, saloon, and outdoor dining give enough comfort to enjoy a week aboard; snorkelling from the dinghies covers the surface highlights of sites like Manta Sandy and Cape Kri. Couples and families seeking a purely scenic Raja Ampat cruise without a dive focus may find the boat's rhythm more dive-oriented than they need; smaller VIP phinisi options fit that brief better. Departures run from Sorong, with flights from Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, or Makassar into SOQ the day before embarkation.
