Akassa
A name drawn from the ancient concept of eternal space, Akassa moves with quiet grace through the islands of Komodo National Park. This VIP phinisi blends traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful comforts, offering a grounded yet adventurous way to explore one of Indonesia’s most dramatic marine landscapes.
Vessel Character and Design
Akassa is a wooden phinisi built for explorers who appreciate authenticity without compromise. Her name, inspired by 'Akasha'—a Sanskrit term for the infinite, all-pervading ether—reflects the sense of openness and timelessness you’ll feel as she glides across the Flores Sea. Designed with clean lines and functional elegance, Akassa honors the legacy of Indonesian shipbuilding while delivering modern ease for today’s travelers.
The vessel’s layout prioritizes flow and comfort. Common areas are thoughtfully arranged to encourage connection or quiet reflection. The sundeck offers unobstructed 360-degree views, perfect for sunrise yoga, afternoon reading, or watching the stars emerge. Below deck, the dining and lounge space is well-ventilated and naturally lit, furnished with durable, locally sourced materials that age gracefully at sea.
As a VIP-class charter, Akassa strikes a balance between polished service and a relaxed onboard rhythm. She’s not about opulence for its own sake, but about creating the right conditions for deep immersion in the environment—whether you’re watching bats spiral from Kalong Island at dusk or floating above coral gardens at Manta Point.
Cabin Layout and Guest Capacity
Akassa accommodates up to 14 guests across 5 well-appointed cabins, each designed for comfort during multi-day journeys through the archipelago. The cabin configuration includes:
- 1 Larantuka VIP Room: A spacious private suite with premium bedding and enhanced privacy - 2 Rangko & Inerie Deluxe Cabins: Generously sized rooms with quality finishes and ample storage - 2 Kelimutu & Manggarai Superior Cabins: Functional, comfortable spaces ideal for solo travelers or couples
All cabins are equipped with ventilation systems to ensure fresh air circulation, and bedding is designed for restful nights after full days of trekking and snorkeling. While the boat does not feature en-suite bathrooms, shared facilities are maintained to a high standard, cleaned regularly by the onboard crew. The layout supports both private charters and open-share trips, making Akassa a flexible choice for families, small groups, or solo adventurers joining a scheduled itinerary.
Onboard Experience and Daily Rhythm
Life aboard Akassa unfolds with a natural rhythm shaped by tides, light, and landscape. Mornings often begin before dawn with coffee served on deck as the sky shifts from indigo to gold. After breakfast, the boat repositions to the day’s first destination—perhaps a quiet cove for snorkeling or a trailhead for a coastal hike.
Meals are served family-style in the dining area or al fresco on the deck, featuring fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and Indonesian-inspired dishes prepared with local ingredients. Drinking water, coffee, and tea are provided throughout the trip, ensuring you stay hydrated under the equatorial sun. While alcoholic beverages are not included, guests are welcome to bring their own, and the crew can assist with storage and service.
The pace is active but never rushed. You’ll have time to swim in turquoise bays, walk above panoramic viewpoints, and float alongside manta rays without feeling herded from site to site. In the evenings, the boat anchors in calm bays, allowing for quiet conversation, stargazing, or simply listening to the water lap against the hull. The crew—experienced, attentive, and deeply familiar with the region—supports every aspect of the journey, from safety briefings to helping you spot Komodo dragons in the wild.
Ideal Guests for Akassa
Akassa suits travelers seeking a balanced blend of comfort, authenticity, and adventure. She’s a strong choice for first-time visitors to Komodo who want reliable service and a well-paced itinerary without the formality of a luxury superyacht. Families with older children, small groups of friends, or couples on an active getaway will appreciate the communal yet personal atmosphere.
Because the boat operates in a dynamic marine environment, guests should be moderately fit—able to board and disembark via small dinghies, walk uneven trails, and swim with snorkel gear. While not designed for full-scale diving expeditions, Akassa welcomes divers as part of a combined (leisure/diving) trip, with space to store gear and coordinate dive stops at sites like Manta Point or Sebayur.
She’s also a practical option for travelers planning a private charter who value experienced crew, dependable navigation, and a vessel that feels both sturdy and serene in open waters.
