Teman Liveaboard: 36-Metre Nitrox Phinisi for Raja Ampat Expeditions

Teman Liveaboard is a 36-metre traditional Indonesian phinisi built for serious Raja Ampat exploration. The 28-metre deck and 7.5-metre beam sit on a 2.4-metre draft, which lets the vessel slip into channels and shallow reef corridors that larger liveaboards cannot reach. Twin Mitsubishi 6D22 engines at 270 HP deliver a 7-knot cruise and a 9-knot top speed, while the classic two-mast, six-sail rig keeps the authentic phinisi character. With five cabins, a Nitrox-ready dive deck, and a layout engineered for twelve guests, Teman functions as a floating dive base for expeditions that demand range and autonomy.

Technical Specifications and Range

Teman carries dual Bauer air compressors, an NRC Nitrox membrane system (500L), a water maker, 2x3,500L freshwater capacity, and 2x3,500L fuel reserves that enable extended voyages to remote Raja Ampat sites. The 220V/50Hz electrical system runs on 40 KVA and 22.5 KVA gensets, ensuring reliable power across cabins and common areas. Classified as VIP with a posted Available status for both 2026 and 2027 seasons, Teman accepts private charters and itinerary customisation for diving, photography, and mixed-interest groups of up to twelve guests.

Five Cabins Named for Indonesian Islands

Cabins on Teman bear the names of Indonesia's great islands. The Sulawesi Master Cabin anchors the main deck, while the Banda and Flores doubles accommodate couples, and the Celebes and Seram triples work for families or dive buddies travelling together. Every cabin is air-conditioned with an ensuite bathroom, giving guests a private, climate-controlled retreat after long days at depth. The layout keeps noise between cabins low and respects the privacy many multi-day charters require.

Dive Deck and Guest Areas

The fully equipped dive deck is Nitrox-ready with the dual Bauer compressors, and gear rental is available for guests travelling light. The indoor dining area serves fresh buffet-style meals blending Indonesian and Western home cooking. Inside the indoor lounge, you will find bean bags, cushions, a TV with karaoke, comfortable sofa seating, and a small library for the quiet hours between dives. The sun deck layers more bean bags, shaded zones, coffee tables, and ambient lounge lighting, framing every Raja Ampat sunset and the night sky that follows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Teman Liveaboard different from other Raja Ampat phinisis?
Teman combines dual Bauer compressors, an NRC Nitrox membrane system (500L), a water maker, 2x3,500L fuel reserves, and a 2.4-metre draft. Together these let the vessel reach remote dive sites and shallow reef corridors that deeper-draft boats cannot enter.
How many guests can Teman accommodate and in which cabins?
Teman hosts up to 12 guests across five cabins: the Sulawesi Master Cabin, the Banda and Flores double cabins, and the Celebes and Seram triple cabins. All cabins are air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms.
Is dive gear and Nitrox included in the price?
The diving package includes full 12L tanks, weight belt, weights, and up to three guided dives per day with English-speaking local guides. Dive equipment rental, 15L tanks, and Nitrox are available as paid add-ons rather than base inclusions.
What deposit is required to confirm a booking?
Individual bookings require a 30 percent deposit within 10 days of invoice. Group and full-charter deposits are 30 percent (270 to 181 days prior) or 40 percent (180 to 91 days prior), both non-refundable and non-transferable.
Can the itinerary change during the cruise?
Yes. Teman Liveaboard reserves the right to adjust an itinerary mid-voyage when weather or safety conditions require it. The cruise director and captain make these calls in real time to protect guest comfort and diving safety.
