The Komodo Dragon: A Lethal Predator
The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is the world's largest lizard, reaching lengths of up to 3 meters and weighing between 70 to 90 kilograms. Its thick, grayish-brown skin, sharp claws, and powerful legs make it a formidable predator. Komodo dragons are found primarily on Komodo and Rinca islands in Indonesia, where they thrive in hot, dry environments. They are active during the day, basking in the sun to regulate their body temperature before retreating to burrows at night. As apex predators, Komodo dragons feed on large animals like deer, wild boars, and even buffalo, using their venomous bite to weaken their prey before overpowering them. Their digestive system is strong enough to break down bones, and they can live up to 30 years or more in the wild.
